This request was from a a government
established organisation, established with the purpose of
creating opportunity, releasing potential and achieving
excellence for all.
Defining a project brief
The company was looking for a
CD and DVD packaging solution for an information pack about
their project "Implementing the Disability Discrimination
Act in schools and early years settings".
The pack was to be designed to accommodate
for future updates, and needed to be durable in order to
withstand being sent through the post to users.
The branded artwork for the project
carried a spectrum of solid colours which had to be printed
consistently across many different substrates used within
the project, including paper, card, gloss substrates and
the optical media discs.
Concept and product proposal
A variety of solutions were presented
to the customer, however a final option was chosen after
careful consideration.
Each unit consisted of:
a ring binder folder, with a full
colour printed cover, spine and rear
a heavy duty slipcase printed in
full colour to match the folder
printed inserts
tabbed dividers
die-cut A4 folder-insert to hold
discs (see image below)
a folder clip to compress the printed
insert.
Project evaluation
Below gives a further insight
into the benefits of the pack contents:
a folder and printed inserts allowing
the user to remove and update specific areas of information
a heavy duty slipcase denoted both
quality and durability, ensuring the life span of the
folder was preserved
full colour offset lithographic printed
folder and slipcase for a high quality finish to promote
the importance of the folder contents
full colour offset lithographic printed
tabbed dividers to separate the printed inserts - each
insert was to carry the branded colours of the project
for consistency
a die-cut A4 folder insert for a
cost-effective solution to securely hold and protect the
important optical media which accompanies the folder
a folder clip to compress and hold
the printed inserts in place during transit.
As a final stage of the project,
the pack is inserted into a brown corrugated mailing box
for further protection during mailing.
